Benny Pisani founded Heat Wave of Florida in the fall of 2014 after the folding of Teal Sound, which was the last DCI drum and bugle corps in Florida at the time.

His approach to restoring drum and bugle corps in Florida was to make it available to anyone from 14-21 years of age, provide a solid music and marching education to the youth of Florida, and that holds true to this day.

Benny has been involved with the drum corps activity since 1967 in such corps as the Meadowlarks of Secaucus, NJ, the St. Andrews Bridgemen of Bayonne, NJ, The U.S. Army Band, The Bridgemen Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, as Director of the Colorado Springs Color Guard of Colorado Springs, Heat Wave of Orlando (DCA) as a marching member and as a member of its Board of Directors, Sun Devils  (DCA) Drum and Bugle Corps as the Vice President of the Board of Directors. He has been involved with many other indoor percussion groups, serving as a percussion instructor. Benny has also worked with numerous marching bands in the same capacity.

In 2017, due to personal issues, he resigned as the Executive Director and President of Heat Wave of Florida, but he closely followed the organization's evolution and growth into what it is today.

Benny's passion for the drum and bugle corps activity never left him, and his wish to see Heat Wave thrive continues.
